Apparently there are a lot of containers on the high seas with my name on them! Shipping congestion in the ports has slowed the delivery of our brand new 2015 figures and animals. There are some frantic fairies out there just dying to get out of their boxes!
Once they get here you will see these new surprises popping up!
We cannot wait.
The minute we put our reindeer on the site, a question started popping up that we have been hearing since 2006.
“Where is Rudolph?” "When is she going to make Rudolph?” "Why is there no Rudolph?”
In case you had the same question, I will tell you why:
My eight tiny “Dash Away” reindeer were inspired by the Clement Moore poem 'Twas the Night Before Christmas written in 1822.
"With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came.
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away, Dash away all!"
So, you see, no Rudolph in this group.
Rudolph wasn’t born yet! He was created by Bob May, in an autobiographical story he wrote almost 120 years later and sold to Montgomery Ward. The song, sung by Gene Autry became very popular in the late 1940's and has been ever since.
So, Rudolph is a whole ‘nother story as they say.. (and a licensed creation)!
He and Dasher are from different eras, different cultures, different minds.
I have taken the liberty of changing “Donner" or “Donder’s" name from the poem.
I was made terrific fun of on the Jay Leno Tonight show a few years back for doing so.
But I had an excellent reason. When I got to the seventh reindeer, I needed a girl in the lineup. I dressed "Donner" up in her lace up magenta boots and wreathes of roses and she just became “Donna”, the prima reindeer of the team.
So that is the story. Some liberties, I will take, when they make sense to my odd brain!!
