Every once in a while we get a little message. Today we got an affirmation of the goodness that is out there.
These letters speak for themselves.
Holly's sister, Lee Connelly, is a retired teacher and her fifth grade students were inspired by her story and by Herm. Here is her letter:
Dear Holly and Patience,
When I substitute taught the other day, my principal gave me a box of coins that were collected through a penny challenge contest in school.
I took the coins to my bank and deposited the money so I could write a check for the full amount to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
Back in May, I told my classes why I was not going to be in school on the day of the Dinner for Herm. I told them Herm's story and of the research being done in his memory to help cure cancers.
Two of the boys became interested and approached the principal to do a fundraiser in Herm's name.
I am hoping you can forward this amount to the LLS.
Sending tons of love and good wishes,
We are so grateful for Krystian Lata and Connor Scott and Lee. Thank you for this effort. It took Lee four trips from her car to the bank to carry all in the pennies!
It is through efforts like yours, through education and awareness that we might get closer to cures for cancers. Thank you for acknowledging with us that there are wonderful dedicated people working so terribly hard to save other wonderful people who's lives are suddenly struck with a frightening cancer diagnosis every single day.
The next Dinner for Herm will be the first week of May in 2016. Every year we have an LLS Ornament. All proceeds go to the Holland C. Gregg IV Research Fund. More information is available on our Holland C. Gregg IV Research Fund: http://www.lls.org/pages/wcny/herm2015
Thank you, Thank you,
